Manchester Withington Selection: More News

We are told that Withington Branch met and nominated (a) Dr Yogesh Virmani and (b) Naheed Arshad-Mather MBE. In other words they chose to use their open vote for a second BME candidate. The first happens to be a truly, consistently local candidate. But in more reducing the local meme to absurdity I'm not sure that would make her a better MP or candidate.

Five have now got a start. Sorry for slow service on this news.

UPDATE: See corrected order of polls. See first comment for background.

From what I hear, Dr Yogesh (sounds like a dodgy daytime tv programme) was actually the first candidate selected.

However, I think that particular branch isn't reflective of the constituency as a whole though and is struggling for active members so badly (less than five people at the nomination meeting) that they have selected an inexperienced student as their branch chair.

Thanks anonymous. I have corrected the post using your information. Less than five means one, two, three or four. Which was it. Sounds like that episode of Black Adder when Baldrick had the only vote. Wasn't the CLP EC representative at the meeting able to assist? Or where they happy with the way things went?

Quorate?

No quorom on branch nomination meetings in PPC Selection process.

Thanks again to anonymousies. There is no quorum. But clearly the support of some branches in this part of the process may be a more useful predictor than others.

I believe that the two biggest and most active branches were the first two to select - that is Chorlton and Old Moat.

When I said select I meant nominate of course.

The branch in question do not have an inexperienced student as Chair. They have someone who has been active in the party since they were 15. Someone who has campaigned in the Welsh Assembly, Manchester and across the North West. Someone who has been a trade union organiser. And importantly for that branch someone who is incredibly committed to involving young people in the party.
