LoL's reporter and photographer there. Eight candidates. Forty members. Some candidate machinery. Gossip. Tidbits nibbled. Atmosphere drunk in. Attempts to OUT "local voter" met blank expressions. Denials of NCTJ training. More tomorrow.

Good event. Well attended and lively. Clearly two horse race though, Nargis and Lucy. Interesting to meet the other candidates though. I'm sure that some of them will succeed elsewhere and good luck to them.
"candidate machinery"
They're taking their tool boxes now?
Other Withington social, this Saturday if anyone fancies it. Can't promise any goss tho!
I was at the Johnson dinner on Friday, the hustings on Sat, the social last night.
Is there anyone left in the party who is not on the payroll vote?
I only seemed to meet MPs, Euro MPs, Lords, councillors, candidates, would-be candidates, people who work for the party or authorities, or quangos, or think tanks, or arms length bodies, or campaigning organisations, or affiliated trades unions, or colleges, that are run or funded by Labour or money which Labour controls.
Or their families and closest friends.
Where are the people who just want a better world without a job in it for them?
question master is being a bit harsh. there's nothing like having a job where you can change the world.
On our table it was mainly just normal members. Only a couple of candidates. No one that worked for the party or held elected office.
I've got some photos from this event. Pics of 8 of the candidates. Hope I've got the names to the right faces

All this selection business has done wonders for interest and attendances
Parbury: Blackberries cf Number 10 are correct tool boxes for this game.
Improved (i.e. it works) LINK HERE to The Encroyable Lorenzo's photographs.
Good to see that Lorenzo has managed to avoid showing the four double agents skulking in the corner who are currently infiltrating Leech central. As conductor and erstwhile Bradley agent Tom Grimshaw (no thanks to Davey also newly elected Chair of the Branch) readies to conduct massed choirs in The Red Flag.
Candidates seem to have numbers not names Lorenzo?
Found names - not on slideshow - all correct, though one PhD and one OBE and one Councillor not including whereas one PhD is included. Is Lorenzo currying favour for major Unicorn customer Dr Evans?
question master, I think you'll find the "people who want a better world" are probably working for the 2 Johns - McDonnell and (jon) Cruddas. No apparatchiks, we.BTW John McDonnell in Manchester Monday night @MMU students' union details @
www.john4Leader.org.uk
And by implication Susan the rest of us who don't support the two johns are working for a worse world. Nice one comrade. Solidarity has always been a strong point of the far left!!
Yep come to the John McD event, I'll be there it'll b good.
The John McDonnell meeting is at 7pm on Monday February 12 in the conference room at MMU student union on Oxford Road.
Everyone welcome - not just students or Labour Party members.
John will speak and there will be a discussion on whether we need a leadership election when Tony steps down.
Clearly if you are a member of Chorlton Branch Labour Party you'll want to be at the nomination meeting at the Co-op Rooms, Hardy Lane on the very same night as John4Leader.
Not only is this vital nomination meeting during school half term, ruling out a number of comrades, but also clashing with a vital leadership debate. Tsk.
PS Susan, I'll not tell Compass Mel that you're back on board the Cruddas Express.
Guys really sorry that those 2 things have clashed but we'd be delighted to see anyone else who'd like to come see John McDonnell. Invite your political mates or anyone who is vaguely interested.
Come and question the man who would like to replace Tony Blair as Labour leader and the next Prime Minister. Everyone welcome, student or otherwise. It is on Monday Febuary 12th, 7-8:30PM at Man Met Students Union. Check out John 4 leader for more info.
