Manchester Withington Selection: The People Have Spoken - Hats Off To Lucy Powell

Lucy Powell has today won selection as Labour's candidate by a handsome margin. We can now look forward to persuading the citizens of Manchester Withington to back Lucy with the same vigour as their local Labour Party have done.

Well done to Jenny Lennox, Nargis Khan, Naheed Arshad-Mather and Yogesh Virmani. To Brendan and all the officers of the constituency. And to Andy Smith who provided expert support from Regional Office.

Good luck to Powell.
Who came second in the selection?

Hi Andrea

Others will probably have blogged the full results e.g. A-W-T but in effect it is irrelevant, no second round was needed so the real strength of the other nominees was not really shown, it close enough to a four-way tie for all practical purposes with %s all around 10% with one nearer 5%.

There are no prizes for second place as they say. Although Lord Bradley may have a different perspective on that one!

Jenny Lennox - my 1 preference - was just ahead and IMO will make a fantastic MP before very long at all. Same goes for Nargis and Naheed if they have the opportunity.

Yogesh is I think unlikely to look elsewhere now or in future as the whole essence of her campaign was as the most local of the lot of them.

The politics and process of all this was fascinating and I have a great deal of respect for all the campaign teams. When all the diverse skills and experience and points of view of these hitherto competing teams are combined and channelled we have an excellent chance of reclaiming Man Wit.

Andrea
I've put the results on my blog along with an optimistic left-wing analysis.
Click on my name to read.
Best wishes.

Many thanks. It looks as a quite big win (in terms of numbers anyway) for Lucy Powell.

Yes Andrea, it was a very very emphatic win indeed. All sorts of factors in that.

Bloggers4Lucy! Down with Leech as Will says.

Dear Readers

I have removed some posts from an anonymous troll. Let's assume that it was a Lib Dem or someone else who does not have the interests of the Labour Party at heart. Who does not accept any view but their own. And who seeks to control what everyone thinks, speaks, writes and does.

Best wishes

Kathy: I'm sorry but I've removed a post from yourself too. The part about how well Jenny has done was fine. But the way things are the way you continued and speculated about a future campaign had to come down.
