Michael Meacher: What a Cheeky Old Facebook Comrade He Still Is

Michael still has 56 Facebook members, none of whom has the power of nomination, but he has finally stopped nicking my "Class Act" comment out of context like some third-rate theatrical impressario.

He also removed my guillotine graphic (right) though some persistent blogger bloke has put it back, and so it see-saws onwards to humiliation for the rentier blogger who needs a PA using a parliamentary email address and a committee meeting to pass or likely spike a bloke's blog comment.

Screen grabs may follow. But is he worth it?

One Michael supporter - BECAUSE of the conspiracy theories - Matthew Devereaux Edwards has been assailing me with Aikido quotes, links and metaphors.

Perhaps I can add one from the grandmaster of St Catherine's, Jamaica: The Harder They Come, The Harder They Fall, One And All.

UPDATE: Michael's Researcher and in his own time campaign assister Dan Judelson has posted a couple of comments here and informs me that eventually some kind of link to my guillotine did appear on Michael's blog. I'll take a look and report back.

Chris,

I look after the Facebook site for Michael's campaign, put up the "class act" quote, removed the photo and posted a link on Michael's blog to your original guillotine graphic/post, though I have yet to see your promised appreciation.

The "class act" quote was deliberately unattributed as I knew you were not a supporter but it was a comment in the public domain that I thought would be mildly amusing. You disagreed, so it was replaced.

You described yourself in the Facebook photo caption as a "critical friend". I've yet to see anything that would really justify the second part of that phrase. If you can point me in the direction of something that indicates otherwise, I'll happily stand corrected.

I just remembered, you did point out an important spelling mistake (seriously - it was in the email address), so thanks for that.

Dan: I didn't know you'd posted the link on Michael's blog because unlike when my comment was being queued I did not get a parliamentary email informing me that it had been posted and to be fair after several days I had given up hope.

It took a hell of a long time for the Class Act quote to be replaced. At least a couple of weeks after knowing my objection in fact. I had to go and post the guillotine pic on Michael's facebook to get action on that request.

Critical: Michael should not be standing as a Leadership Candidate this time. I think it is (a) futile and (b) unhelpful to others. And yes critical over lack of gumption on Iraq, conspiracy theory support, and those houses.

Friend: I appreciated Michael's appearance for StWC in Manchester Town Hall. I organised the room for it in fact. I appreciate his command of facts and figures on oil and war and most of his ideas on the environment though I am not a gungho climate panicker - because of my scientific upbringing that'll be.

I just don't think my 'friend' Michael should be in this election. That annoys me. It is doing no good for his reputation or for his party.

At least he seems to have dispensed with the crazy idea of doubling up into both elections. Because Trade Union backers of John Cruddas told him not to. Why did he not listen when similar backers told him to cease and desist on the leadership.

As you will recall we often agree on various political issues as I'm sure I do with Michael but this seems like a fool's errand to me and I stand by all my comments. I will look at what's on Michael's blog and post an appreciation if merited when I've found that and assessed it.

Best wishes Dan

PS The replacement quote from El Tom is also not from a supporter. He's for Brown as the runners and riders stand though like me he appreciates Michael's skills as a pundit.

Actually, I'm undeclared, and shall remain so, it seems, right until the end. I find the leadership extremely frustrating.

Meacher broadly matches my politics, but I don't see him with a cat in hell's chance of even getting on the ballot, let alone winning, and, moreover, I think he would be a gift to the tories because of his personal history and gaffe gravity.

I think Brown has tremendous promise and opportunity, but he's played a sly game of avoiding making clear whether or not he will take it. I suppose it depends if a blairite stands.

Incidentally, if one does, I'll have to vote for Brown, and he'll have to find some clear red water. But that's speculatory.

As such, there is nobody I can campaign for; I can't even make up my mind who to vote for!

Cheers El Tom ... perhaps Dan can credit your "review" now?
