RADIO FIVE LIVE DRIVE: "You've Won an Instant Prize, Where Do You Live?"

TRIVIA: German police snared a miscreant who liked his beer by ringing with the good news that he'd won a crate of beer for immediate delivery. This reminded me of the flowers received by Buzzcocks leader Pete Shelley at a solo gig at the long lost International 1. Lovely they were. But the blooms included a blooming summons. Duly served and witnessed by "InterVATman". Say it with flowers.

I was once standing on a table watching a Shelly solo gig at a forgotten Manchester venue when Paul Weller and Rick Buckler came in and stood on the next two tables.
If I remember rightly The Jam - chart megatars by this point - were playing the next two nights at the Apollo.
Does anyone else remember that?
Was it the same gig I wonder?
Shelly was good - by the way.

The International was on Anson Road, near Birchfields Park and is now a big grocery/deli. It had had a previous existence as a cheesy dancery, possibly known as Jenny-vives (phonetic spolling!). Shelley played out a lot around that time.

The Jam playing two nights at the Apollo was probably earlier than Shelley at the International which would be c 85 or 86.

It's Shelley. isn't it?

Diggle's Flag of Convenience were among the six acts (along with ACR who are playing a Bank Holiday special at Rockworld) at Rock Against Reagan at around the same time.

Bogshed also, Biting Tongues, Brazil Project (Jazz Defectors without the "singers"), and Distant Cosuins made up the numbers.
