BLOGSCLUSIVE Libdemologists: Fudge Leaves a Bad Taste in Tory Mouths

Mr Adrian "Fudge" (right) is on Newsnight, now. He is the Lib Dem ex Deputy Leader of Bournemouth's now defeated Lib Dem regime. He himself lost his seat (Littledown and Iford) by almost 1,000 votes in a sticky, fudgy Lib Dem all out melt down.

From "in control" to second party with SEVEN seats to an extraordinary 41 for the Tories.
But this was not before, on election day itself, these Lib Dem geezers signed a controversial contract for .... a massive City Centre Casino.

Newsnight's correspondent is suggesting this was vindictive and irresponsible "fuck you" opportunism. LOL couldn't possibly comment.

Remember 1995 local elections, the Conservatives in Salisbury ignoring public opinion, the advice of their consultants, petitions and a wide-scale protest to push through their plans for a deeply unpopular £8.3m car stack in the centre of the city. They ignored warnings that the Liberal Democrats would cancel the project if we they won control and - in a huge display of arrogance and contempt for the democratic process - signed the contract at 1.20 pm on the very eve of the elections!
To scare the electorate they hugely inflated their predictions of the project cancellation costs, which, after some hard bargaining, were nearer £375,000 not the £1m claimed.
Mr Adrian Fudge did not sign the contract - an officer did at 6.45 pm on election day itself! It is reported in the local paper in Bmth that he only reviewed some papers upon it the previous day and didn’t know the officer was going to sign it the next day. In fact he says that it can easily be set aside as essential land needed has still to be transferred and if the new administration says no then there will be no casino
