Chris, Stringer is backing Meacher!

Chris Paul said...

Well yes, but essentially he's backing a contest. The question will be whether others of this generation (= same as John) will find it in themselves to back him if Meacher is out. Logically they should but as I've said elsewhere there is no love lost between the GLC crew and the LG rest.

Is Stringer mad? He is not hard left, what is he doing.

Stringer may simply believe that having a contest would be a good idea for the party. Back at Brighton 2005 one of the running gags from the big boys on the platform whether junior (Milli) or senior (Prezza) was jeering at the Tories for not letting their rank and file have a say in their leadership election. In fact they did allow this in the end. But even at the time it seemed pretty rich when Labour's basic protocols were not even followed and where the PLP - who stand to be the winner's playthings - have a ridiculous say in the succession. Just my POV. Graham has been calling for Blair to go for a long time, but he certainly doesn't want Meaxcher or McDonnell in No 10.

Stringer once got chucked out of Manchester Art Gallery for singing The Red Flag........he was definitely hard left in 1984 and @ the same time as GLC were going......with Ken L and John McD
