About ten years ago Hockney produced a piece for the Independent; the art work was a wrap around so every reader had a Hockney (not a print).

Indeed. Mr Yentob is overselling this a bit. U2 of course did a free album / live special and downloadable artwork. I've put in what I think may be a Banksy or school of Banksy stencil piece to Guardian weekend photo comp - under the title art - but they'll probably not use it. If not I'll blog it next week.
