Maidstone and Weald: Private Eye Pick Widdy Successor

Curiouser and curiouser. The Nu Cuddly Tory Party may be having open selections in some constituencies. Where anyone can vote. And all members meetings in others. But the greatly fancied seat of Ann Widdecombe will not be surrendered so easily. The famous if something sprawling and rustic seat will have no truck with such democratic finanglings.

Instead the Editor of Private Eye, local resident Ian Hislop will ask zee questions. Then a handful of swivel eyed Kentish Men, Men of Kent, Kentish Maids and Maids of Kent - the Association Executive - will decide.

Apparently they're going to be picking an intern from Hull (above).

Hat tip: Iain Dale who says he breathed a sigh of relief, but could in fact have had an audition for Have I Got News for You?.

There is no truth to the rumour that the intern from Hull is yours truly.

Indeed not. Wouldn't have affected many escapes had you been so well nourished. Have Rocky and his master been exonerated yet? Mine specialise in postmen and larger rodents and the like.

Chris

I just cam across this old posting on LibDem Voice on which I commented

http://www.libdemvoice.org/david-abrahams-labour-donation-1693.html

The interesting thing is that after a bit of research it does appear that political parties do have access to the marked electoral registers which show who voted in elections - but they are only allowed to use the information for electoral purposes and are meant to keep the details confidential.

In the comments Greg Stone (who was the Lib Dem candiate in the Sedgefield bye-election) appears to be breaking the regulation in this regard by providing details of how Mr Ruddick's (of Arbraham's infamy)voting record - and it would be stretching the imagination to say that it was for electoral purposes.

Perhaps anyone with a better understanding of the RPA may want to confirm whether or not my understanding is correct?

Ps - only joking when I said I would tell any Lib Dems to f*** off if they contact me during elections. Much more fun stinging them along for an hour or so - during which they usually agree with everything I say - it's amazing how gullible they are!

Too early yet Chris, up at the magistrates court on the 15th. I expect it will be adjourned whilst my lawyers obtain all the paperwork from the prosecution.

That Greg Stone! They're a right lot those Lib dems aren't they. Ignoring all the rules and niceties. It is indeed an offence (ban and £5k) to use registers and marked registers in the way you describe.

Is Mr Stone still running Labour Watch? Has he found himself a better seat?
