Haltemprice and Howden By-Election: Watch This Space

Here is David Davis' Wiki Profile which includes some interesting family previous politically. And here's the equivalent for his seat. Very strongly Conservative with Labour an increasingly bad third as time goes by. But would a star candidate who was willing and able to take on Davis' issue tear up the script? Will Nick Clegg have the support of his party if he does stand down their campaign? David Cameron and Co get to call the date I believe.

UPDATE 13:29: BBC have Tory Reactions (NB Includes Dale speaking of "sacrificing own seat"); BBC Profile; Libs will not stand - some sacrifice!; David cameron is briefing that there is "NO RIFT". He would wouldn't he?

Clearly we don't have the whole story - without the LibDems standing Labour might even increase its vote - so where would that leave David Davis? We could even decide not to stand on the basis that Davis is only playing silly games.

Labour shouldn't stand either instantly undercutting the attempt to make it a false referendum on "the freedom agenda".

I have to say that I've long worried about Labour's position on what I call the freedom agenda, but this move by DD is nonsense and may actually set the freedom agenda backwards.

They will say Labour are frit if we don't stand. Despite the numbers. It si a bit unlikely that the people of North Yorkshire will shift en masse to Labour or away on this matter.

But we'll have to wait and see.
