Broken News: "Best Kept Secret" Sedgefield Vacancy

BBC News 24 has announced that Mr Blair will be standing down as MP for Sedgefield making for a double by-election when Ealing Southall also elect their new MP. It would be a good thing if Labour took positive action to improve the situation of under-represented groups - such as (Asian) women - rather than increasing the representation of friends and relatives of high ups in both these safe seats. We wait with baited breath.

Sedgefield was more than 99% white at the last census. Be fair all round, Chris. Of course, I could be delighted if it were an Asian woman. But never simply on grounds of ethnicity or sex.

The CLP there certainly used to be chaired by an enthusiastic John McDonnell supporter, and probably still is. But even so, what are the odds on Euan Blair?

Oh David. I'm not a communalist. There are very few if any constituencies were even a quarter of the population is of a particular faith/ethnicity other than white British.

Euan Blair is a possibility I suppose. Is he a socialist? But there are a couple of time served lackeys also. And Prezza has _his_ son lined up for his seat I'm told.

"White British" woman would be an advance for representation. Probably in the majority in Sedgefield.
