Recess Monkey: Deceased Maggie?

Parliamentary Blogger Recess Monkey scooped the field with an announcement shortly after midnight that brass-necked iron lady Maggie Thatcher had shuffled off to the great scrapyard in the sky.

Iain Dale, who has been promised the exclusive, was in a right Tory tizzy, nuancing a Maggie obituary, finishing a tie-in hagiography, and recalling Mark's Twain's oft-misquoted aphorism "The report of my death was an exaggeration".

Not one to harbour a grudge Iain has Recess Monkey blogger Alex Hilton on Blogger TV tonight at 9pm. Hilton did recant this morning.

Thatcher’s death is an issue that needs to be addressed. When the time comes we’re going to be hit with an avalanche of sycophantic nonsense and for the most part we’ll have to take it.

But I don’t think it will be long before someone says what they really think of Thatcher. Tories genuinely underestimate the level of hatred she continues to stir up and there may well be ugly scenes.

Given the number of people who will want to party, a number of venues will be required in each of our major cities that can be put on stand-by. The problem is logistical.

You know Stephen, I think you're right. Never mind NYE or the Millennium there could be a serious shortage of venues, more street parties than at any time since VE day or the coronation, and even perhaps moves to replaces the 400-year departed Guido Fawkes with the Magwitch.

Would it be better to start on these matters rightaway? Otherwise the Bullingdon Boys will be starting to smash up communities and livelihoods instead of gastro-pubs in front of our very eyes.

Voters seem to have already forgiven and forgotten that Bullingdon 87 ring leader dopey Dave was the proud author of one of the most far right Tory campaigns ever.

No-one will remember the Thatcher Terror unless we get onto renouncing it right away.
