Electoral Commission: Sam Younger Question 1

Dear Sam Younger

What should actually happen in your view when a complaint is received by the Electoral Commission or the police about a perceived overspend by a candidate during the election period?

Should the fact that there is a complaint be recorded and on the public record?

Should those complaining be kept informed of progress in investigating?

Should the decision of enquiries be published, if not the full proceedings with guidance in the case of minor discrepancies and fines and tough action in the case of major ones?

Best wishes

Labour of Love

Mr Younger is appearing on 18 Doughty Street tomorrow. Iain wants question suggestions. Here are ten of many, concentrating on election spends nitty gritty.
