Conservative Resistance: Those Old Habits Die Hard

Seventy Five Percent of Conservatives choosing to take part in poll on Conservativehome.com would not want Helen Grant, selected to replace Anne Widdecombe in Maidstone and the Weald; Sajjad Karim, top-listed in the NW MEP list; or Tony Lit, 3rd placed candidate for David Cameron's Conservatives in Ealing Southall to have been selected as they were.
Grant had helped Labour and only just joined, Karim had been a Lib Dem MEP but defected, Lit was seen hob nobbling with Tony Blair moments before his career move. There is a suggestion in comments that the fact that high profile Johnny-come-latelies are BME increased the animosity to fast-tracking.

Personally I think that a ban on members from the legal profession would be more useful than a waiting period.

That would screw two of them, leaving Lit. But then, he didn't get elected anyway. I wonder how Gurch and the other defectives - mostly non lawyers I think - are getting on on council?

What has everyone got against lawyers? I know that there aren't very many of us, but whatever our political views, we do actually try to ensure that everyone has a say when it comes to court!

Having said that, there are a lot of people who claim to be lawyers but who haven't practised much ...

Saj has just opened a shop one quarter of a mile from where I live. But he is presumably out of practice? Lawyers are of course among the least loved occupational groups with politicians and journalists. Obviously doubling up on these squares the opprobium. Trebling up sees it cubed. I suppose you'd have to be all the above and ABC or a Muslim, Jew or Catholic to get the hate to the power of four.

Saj's greatest triumph so far in terms of crossing the floor is Faraz who describes himself as a "legal executive" and does have a law degree I'm told from a midlands university of the third wave. At least he's on a different side of the law from some of his pals. And the fact he is a low rent rentier and a political flirter like his dad does not come in to it. He's a "lawyer".

Practicing somewhere down near the airport with his special friend.
