Former Tory Chair: NO to "Norris to Boris" Downgrade

Lib Dems celebrate defection of London Conservatives high up Dirk Hazell who despairs at "the Norris to Boris downgrade". Addled when it comes to remarks on Labour. But far from ga-ga when dissing Boris "Watermelon Smile" Johnson. Looks like Paddick did consider standing as a Tory (penultimate question) but baulked despite Winston. In respect for Mum's feelings.

That Dirk Hazell creep is the image of Barry Humphries impression of the Australian Attache Les Paterson! I've met Hazell and he slavers like him as well.

An admirable smear on both the Tories that had him as their Chair and the Lib Dems who celebrate his turncoatery. Good news for Ken.

Lee Jasper out the door half a mo after that other scumbag Miranda Grell.

Ken's fucked. The Labour Party is fucked.

Normally the thing to say at this point would be:

"Hurrah for Lee Jasper who has done the honourable thing while he fights to clear his name from Tory/Evening Boris smears"

Wouldn't it? Well wouldn't it?

Looks like he considered standing as a Tory! I've just read the article and I have to say that you must be reading a different one than me. I quote in full:

"Is it true the Tories tried to woo you as their mayoral candidate? S Banerjee, Gateshead

I was asked to a meeting with the then president of the Conservative Party about becoming the Conservative candidate for Mayor of London. I said to myself and to my mother: "How can I, a card-carrying Liberal Democrat, stand for the Conservatives?" She said: "Churchill crossed the floor... but my mother never forgave him for it." I am a Lib Dem through and through and I believe passionately I can offer an alternative way of conducting politics."

Some people have beer goggles - as a regular reader of your blog I have to say that you seem to have Labour goggles. Political parties are not gangs, they're ideological platforms - you don't have to slavishly follow the party line, or convince yourself that your party is always good whilst the others are always evil you know?

Having known Dirk Hazell in a previous life, I'm quite shocked he's defected. He is one of the most right wing unreconstructed Thatcherites you could ever hope not to meet.

OK Steve Cooke (Lib Dem councillor, Salford), it is his grandma's feelings he took into account. I was wrong about that. His mum was more equivocal. But he had a meeting with the Tories to discuss the possibility of standing for them did he not? And there is some adverse comment on the defector is there not?

You cannot be a very observant reader if you think this blog or myself are 100% line toers. I am far more radical and independent than that but nonetheless I support and if possible work on behalf of properly selected Labour candidates. And what's more I take some pleasure from one of Boris' party slagging him off in this way.

What's your problem? And why did you not reveal your rank and affiliation??

The Lib Dems round where I live and work ARE nothing but a gang/franchise with absoilutely NO VISIBLE IDEOLOGY or even POLICIES. But perhaps thinks are different in Salford? Not evident from Focus leaflets which are the same old bilge ... but who knows.

Thanks Stephen, comment crossed with mine. Hazell is a defective right wing Thatcherite rat fink. Hurrah. The Lib Dems welcome him - because they are not a gang and have some policiues and self respect to boot - and he is clearly right up their street.

Why did I not reveal my rank/affiliation? What would you suggest? Perhaps that I post using my name, which is linked to my profile, which tells readers that I'm a Salford Lib Dem councillor? Oh yes - I did that though didn't I? Sheesh.

It's a question of honesty and being direct, not things that Lib Dems are renowned for to be fair. Why should readers have to delve deeper to find out where you are coming from? Sheesh.

Never mind that tit for tat Chris. Why isn't Cooke still crowing about Paddick's pureness from considering a Tory candidacy? Why is he not defending his new member in London?

- Because Paddick did consider going Tory
- Because Hazell is a slimeball

If Hazell is an unreconstructed Thaterite, why has he joined the Lib Dems? Maybe his defection has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with Paddick.

Meaning what exactly anonymous 11:32?
