Political Betting: Will Alan Milburn Go After Brown?

The Liberal pundit Mike Smithson, who has an excellent grapevine, has been told that Alan Milburn may attempt a coup after Crewe. Lots of responses to that.

Yes,Brown has ballsed it up now bring back Blairism - that was popular towards the end of Blair's tenure wasn't it? In fact, taking away the initial Brown bounce Labour has been on a downward trajectory since early 2006 and are now where you would expect a governing party to be after 11 years in office. The Tories under Thatch were certainly in this place in 1990 and lost the mid Staffs by election in March of that year. Brown has failed to connect, Milburn is washed out...like most people I can't see an obvious candidate to replace Brown.

Totally off-topic but...re: Crewe and Nantwich...

lifted from Guido Fawkes Blog -

The irony of this is that Edward Timpson's dad (John Timpson CBE) has spent many years and not a little amount of money trying to bag a knighthood for himself, or better still a peerage.

If he paraded up and down with an A Board saying "give me a title", he couldn't have made it much more obvious what all his support for Childline, NSPCC and 80-odd foster children was all about.

Sadly, he only got a CBE, which is of no great help when you're booking a table at a restaurant.

So, if Eddie manages to win Crewe and Nantwich, let's hope that he can fix a title for his old man before he loses his seat in the next General Election, which is pretty much a certainty.

That way, Sir / Lord John can get a seat at a better eating place than that over-priced shit hole he's opened in Anglesey, called "The White Eagle" which anyone who has eaten there would say is best avoided.

Every now and then GuF blogs one off that is a real pleasure to discover. And this is indeed one of those rare events. House arrest and supervision is suiting the old sot.

Looks like Mr Staines has suddenly got the bug for showing aerial photos of candidate's homes.

Have you archived the photo of Timpson Towers? Or is it worth a second viewing...

Well, we could do that I suppose. Do we think acreage of parental homes is going to make the difference at this point? Gwyneth's in the constituency was repossessed. Zero acres.

Sadly I cannot find the GuF wordage as quoted by anon above ...

Have you missed the point, Chris?

Anon @ 22.44 was quoting a comment (probably his own) on Guido's blog.
