New Direction: Labour Home Secures Backing
Will this help the left-of-centre get a blog into the big five?
Under the likes of Dale and GuF and Conservative Home, well-supported by CCHQ, and the non-aligned Political Betting the political blogging world is fairly even stevens. But at the top Tory Boy Bloggers do have the numbers - even if, Tim and Unity, they tend to exaggerate. With Dorries for example getting up to 50 "hits" for a single visit, at the right time of the month.
Our party is not in the best position to invest in semi-detached blogging projects. But can they turn a corner and provide conference passes, decent collective facilities, briefings and recognition of the Labour blogging community? The Tories did in 2007.

Didn't Labour have a 'blogbank' at conference 2006?
To me, this all sounds like hackneyed bullshit: the really thoughtful bloggers have no time for this rankings business, and we've been going on for years about Labour "recognising" blogging: well, what's in it for them? These meetings happened yonks ago.
Yes, we did have a 'blogbank' in '06. The 'official' Labour blogger, from the (lamented) Thursk & Malton blog, came to the B4L social in Manchester, and was a very nice guy. We had a great turnout.
So, the media circus comes and goes, but Labour blogging carries on in its own little way, but a fantastically rich resource it is too.
Funny you should ask whether left-wing bloggers will break into the top five, seeing as all the idiots on Liberal Conspiracy are chickening out of Iain Dale's top 100 list.
What is "hackneyed bullshit" exactly B4L? The report that Labour Home has an investor? The idea that the LP aren't making much use of blogging compared to the Tories?
The 2006 blogbank is news to me - though I'll admit I wasn't blogging at the time (I blogged GE 05 and started again c Christmas 06) but I did know about the Cornerhouse meeting. But went to something else.
What then are the arrangements for 08? Are there free passes? Are there facilities? Is there any offer of news release parity or access to briefings?
LFAT - don't be a prat. They're not chickening out. Sunny is not playing. But then again I think Unity is. We recognise the problem with the top-100 model and also that it gets worse when picks are restricted to ten.
My impression is that far less people badged up their sites in 2007 than did in 2006. As Unity says it is for fun only.

I've never understood why left wing bloggers get involved in Dale's blog oscars anyhow.Daley must have laughed his nuts off when he saw dozens of Labour bloggers put up "I'm in Dale's 100 top bloggers" icons on their blogs, an icon that would lead many readers straight to Dale's blog. Dale is a Tory git, and in my eyes the enemy.He should be denounced and ridiculed at every opportunity, not given free advertising on Labour blogs.
