Holi: Hands Up For Peace, Manchester and Worldwide
There is something a bit odd about running words about the Hindu festival "Holi" without pictures as is the case online here. At a guess there'll be a bloody great picture somewhere. As it happens I was in Calcutta/Kolkata for Holi in 1975 as a 17-year-old. Colourful. Mostly the rhodamine purple colour, rather like the powder flung at PMQs back in the day. Like Rag Day with the odd bit of stray flour replaced with elephantine amounts of paint and dye. Painty hand prints are one of the details sometimes lost in the mix. Echoing the symbol of Carisma's Peace Week - 7-14 March. Never has this been more timely, not only for gun crime in Manchester, but also for Ireland, and Sri Lanka, and Iraq, and Gaza, and Pakistan, and Helmand, and all over.
UPDATE Thu 19:06: Strangely there were no pictures in the Guardian.
