Tom Harris MP is right I think to suggest that Tories ain't the party of regulation, whatever John Redwood may bleat today, and indeed like a broken record since Maggie Thatcher's untrammeled greed and freedom (tm David Cameron at Davos) came home to roost.

How did the Merry Pranksters of the Tory Alternative World actually get on on their parallel universe tripping? What happened in all the real countries with real Tory-type governments and real regulation (or not). Far better to look at those than to speculate about what might have happened here.

George W Bush's USA anyone? Tory Iceland? Tory Japan? Tory anywhere? Did any Tory style government anywhere do substantially better or at all better than any third way (essentially mediated Toryism in econo-political terms) government?
