Rt Hoon Hazel Blears MP: Sit Down You're Rocking The Boat!
Or should that be stand down?
There was a gathering of Labour people in Manchester. No MPs present, though at least five wannabe PPCs and one former MEP were spied, plus a member of Labour's NEC. The word "treachery" was used by several of those present. And in a not entirely unconnected context the Rt Hoon Hazel Blears MP was mentioned time and time again.
One respected speaker, welcoming Gordon Brown's commitment to cleaning up parliament, added the following:"If Hazel Blears is still a candidate at the next election ... we have not cleaned up politics"
In Manchester our vote share versus 2004 fell by just 2.4%, while the Lib Dem vote drooped by more than twice that at -4.9%, and the Greens beat the Tories into fourth. Although the BNP have been active in a number of wards they had their 8th worst result of ten authorities in Greater Manchester. Salford was their second best, behind Tameside.

If someone put that on a t-shirt, I'd buy it.
Tee shirt makers of the world unite ... However, if Hazel were forced to go over her cheque waving, which as I understand it involved an unnecessary payment, that would seem very harsh, unless many other MPs who have made similar allowances claims, with or without repayments, were similarly sacked.
The other question, of eve-of-poll treachery, is quite separate I think. What do the people of Salford Central and particular Hazey's constituency LP think?
Between these two terrible gaffes I can tell you that Hazey went on a walkabout in nearby Rochdale and she was welcomed - literally - with open arms. Hugged and taken to the Town's bosum as it were.
They are of course festering under the shadow of the expenses skimmer Paul Rowen MP and of his mentor Sir Cyril "Spanker" "Slap Up" Smith MBE. But Hazel does have the common touch is all I'm saying.
PS Hazel has the numbers of some very cheap T-shirt printers I hear, though they may be a bit sleazy.
If any current member of the current PLP is still a candidate at the next election we have not cleaned up politics.
Class traitors
