General Election: Is Blair an Asset for Labour? How About Cameron?

Is Tony Blair any kind of asset for Labour in the 2010 General Election? And how about Dave Cameron? Asset for Labour? Or for that matter for the Conservatives?

As you are someone who seems to have their finger on the pulse of local politics in Manchester i wonder if you could assist with a couple of things.
In the latest Focus newsletter Cllr Eakins and Ms Di Mauro say they have had a word with the owner of the now derelict eyesore that was the Tatton Arms tavern, to get them to tidy it up a bit. I thought that this site was owned by a local property company that donates shedloads to the Lib Dems in Manchester ( a local Ashcroft/Unite).
Secondly what effect will holding the general election on the same day as the locals have on the council results? Will The larger Labour turnout for Trougher Goggins mean a larger vote for Cllr Cowell, resulting in Ms Di Mauro coming a distant second ?

Dunno about the Blair thing - not really in a position to judge internal Labour stuff but one would suspect that Labour certainly have to attack Cammo, even if not necessarily sanctioned by HQ. Just common sense really.

The Blair thing tho - if it were up to me, i'd be damning with faint praise. Paint his record in some glossy flummery leaving people with the impression that he was a bit of a knob.

BHT: In the latest Focus newsletter Cllr Eakins and Ms Di Mauro say they have had a word with the owner of the now derelict eyesore that was the Tatton Arms tavern, to get them to tidy it up a bit.

LOL: I was told by workers there 14 months ago that it would be ready for summer 09. The Theatre Company was kicked out of premises they could still be in for all the work that has occurred, and the whole thing is a typical Lib Dem shambles. The man also owns the Church Inn at the top of the lane. The Princess of Hearts curry house memorial out-sized planning flats in Chorlton. And the late lamented Withington fleapit - now a sad demolition site with NO planning permission whatsoever after typical Lib Dem planning piss take from the owner.

BHT: I thought that this site was owned by a local property company that donates shedloads to the Lib Dems in Manchester ( a local Ashcroft/Unite).

LOL: The owner is Jamal - someone who appears to be deeply embedded in the local Lib Dems, although at the time of the first hustings for the Withington Labour PPC he was also a LP member. He could have been a Tory too for all I know.

It has been alleged that he was behind the coup that removed Cllr Simon Wheale from Didsbury and installed the Clayton loser Cllr Mark Clayton in his place. He allegedly did this by signing up dozens of associates and packing the selection meeting. Mr Leech was said to know all about these shenanigans.

Although Cllr Clayton always denies being a property developer his register of member's interests always lists shedloads of properties owned by his mate Jamal. He says he only did IT work for the man. That list of properties no longer includes the eponymous Clayton House (Piccadilly Gardens) which Cllr Clayton appears to have cashed in. While he owned it it was I'm told a correspondence address for all sorts of businesses.

If Mr Jamal has donated anything to the Lib Dems it didn't appear to have bothered the scorers last time I checked at the Electoral Commission. But then again nor had the Cllr tithe from Manc LD cllrs, the Cllr tithe from Rochdale LD cllrs or indeed any donations from the Withington Print Society or the Rochdale Liberal Print Society or the various Lib Dem associates that own the premises of either Paul Rowen or John leech for that matter. Probably needs a bit of digging if you've the time?

LOL: Or third? Tories are fairly likely to vote with their hearts this time in the vague hope of some sort of miracle win for CamShamFlimFlam overall. All sorts of LD held seats may come under pressure on the day, even relatively safe ones like Chorlton Park and Burnage. The City Centre too. Even Withington and the Didsburies could provide upsets.

Ms Di Mauro blotted her copybook rather with tasteless and shameless shots at the war memorial in 2009. I don't think they ever stuck them on a leaflet but using dead soldiers for personal propaganda is not well belovéd of the electorate and people did natter about this in the pubs and clubs and charity shops of the area.

Any good to you?

Yes Dick. Blair was a class act. I think his intervention today may assist Brown. Though Lib Dems in particular will be reaching for their photo archives and dusting off Blair-Bush pictures for attempts at non-sabre-rattling.

The "change" charge against Cam is of course something that amused Armando in the above VT. Ch-ch-ch-changes and hopes down the drain for the Eton boy?

Wow, that was some answer, thank you.
I am thinking of voting tactically for Cllr Cowell in the locals as my dislike of the Lib Dems exceeds my dislike of your lot, however should i receive a tory leaflet this election who knows!

I think leaders of the parties now will be the impact.
A few speeches by past leaders is unliklely to have an impact.
