Where's Wally?: One of Our Libdemologists is Missing

These little yellow invaders with frowns on their faces and fibs on their tongues are Libdemologists. But one of Manchester's diminishing supply of the little buggers is missing.

Can readers please help track him down? The fact they're all much the same - except in their policies which are different on every doorstep - means they are hard to pin down.

Chas Glover, so sadly bye-elected in Gorton South, has been on the missing list ever since.

The Ashley brothers turfed their tenant out of the paternal house immediately after polling day so they could sell it, and perhaps aware he was alleged to be part of a coup plot, and CG has been actively avoiding the Council Chamber with just one appearance.

He is not living in Chorlton - where he was until recently a "local lad".

Or Failsworth where he was "a canny local lad" (Cyril Smith).

He is certainly not apparent living in Gorton South where he again became a "local resident" the day he rolled up with his carpet bag.

Perhaps he is staying with friends in the City Centre?

There have been unconfirmed sightings. But hard to believe "Lazy" Glover could not drag himself to the Town Hall if he lived quarter of a mile away.

Or perhaps he's lying down in a darkened room to get his strength back? Carrying that carpet bag full of fibs around is an exhausting business.

In fact he was kicked out as a Councillor in Failsworth, Oldham because he was "too tired" to do anything. In fact he was alleged to have been away working and partying in Rotterdam most of the time. Perhaps he is there now?

Even the Lib Dems don't know where he is: though LOL did overhear one rather bitchy colleague saying Chas was "all over the place". Omnipresent like a supreme being? Or everywhere and nowhere, baby?

LIB DEM TROLLS: Claim Glover's attendance record and commitment have been good. He has an address in Levenshulme. Please see comments.

Why have the LibDems persisted in getting and keeping him in a Council seat? Either desperate for anyone to stand in an election, or he's very, very close to someone?

Does he still get paid any money, or expenses for doing nowt?

Yes, almost £15,000. Rumours say that despite his "Lazy" tag he is fancying running against Gerald Kaufman as PPC and has the ooomph from Lib Dem Central - unrenowned for fairness or wisdom - to be the "house" candidate.

Which the grass roots may not like. Also widely tipped as a king-maker in the very likely case of Simon Ashley getting the long-deserved heave ho after another debacle in May.

Hence Ashley cosying up to him, giving him a temporaray roof over his head to con people he was local, and backing him generally.

The idea of this bullying and bullocking arse being an MP sends shivers down my spine and to be blunt puts me completely off my stroke.

I know "Chas" and he is the worst of the worst as far as I am concerned. What a lazy and dishonourable piece of shit.

Dear Chris Paul

On the day of the death of Cllr Eric Hobin, the Labour member for Charlestown, who will be much missed across the Council, I was taken aback by the tone and content of your article on Cllr Charles Glover, elected at the last local by-election.

On Councillor Glover's attendance, he missed the March budget Council and Scrutiny Committee through illness; but a 2-minute check of the Council's website shows that he has attended four of a possible five Council meetings; and three of a possible four Scrutiny Committee meetings. He
also attended full Council yesterday, making it five out of six. That's 3/4 and 5/6, which is grand, and rather different from what you have written.

Cllr Glover's address is publically available on the Council's website, which confirms that he lives in the Levenshulme part of the ward he represents.

Please correct the address and attendance errors in your article. Or you could take it down. References to "slime" are not a good way to start the month of April.

You have a guarantee from me that the Labour candidate in a Charlestown election will be treated with more courtesy and simple humanity than was
shown Charles in the election following the death of James Ashley.

Yours sincerely

Paul Shannon

Thanks Paul

Commiserations to Eric's friends and family. I have replied to you privately. I hope that is OK.

Charles Glover has been to one Full Council meeting and his reputation for inactivity and being away precedes him.

He is an inveterate carpet bagger. It is rare for him to stand in the same locale in two consecutive elections. He is that local.

And for sening me this by private email you are ignoring the essentially open medium that is this blog.

I post - you comment. You ask for corrections etc.

In this case, for the moment, I'm not prepared to change what I blogged.

But I am happy for your alternative to be posted on my private and personal blog.

Best wishes

Chris P

What has slime got to do with April? Is this Shannon schmuck really a councillor?

Chris Paul said...

Now now now. I have removed the reference to "the little slime" and replaced with "their tenant". Chas is not little, so fair dos, it was very wrong of me to suggest he was and I apolgise.

Hey, is that Wiki link for real? Why has a piss poor opposition councillor got a Wiki page when he has achieved precisely and absolutely nothing?

Except getting elected and fibbing about stuff.

Such as for example being at the Friends Of meeting which ageed a car park in Platt Fields (FOOLISH) and then pretending he was aghast or surprised. What an idiot. And so very pompous.

Please don't post his stuff again. He seems like a bully and I am now a nervous wreck.

2 minute check? Is this boy Billy Whizz?

There is a short notice re Eric Hobin's death yesterday posted HERE. This is not in anyway connected to the attendance or track record of Cllr Charles Glover covered in this post and I feel it is most invidious and opportunist of Cllr Paul Shannon, Deputy Leader of the Lib Dem Group to attempt to connect the two events in such a crass manner as he has in an email to this blogger reproduced here in shock yesterday. If Paul wishes for his remarks to be removed this will be done when I return from an Emergency Visa Appeal Hearing for my friend Tarus Elly in Stoke later today. In the meantime this blogger is shutting down shop.

You really are a most malicious person. Councillor Glover is not perfect - but "shock horror" nor are you!

Ho ho ho - LOL Labour of Love indeed? - isn't the usual use of LOL meant to mean "Laugh Outloud" - reading your pathetic attempts at discrediting someone from a different political persusion to yourself certainly made made laugh outloud. Or have I the temerity to suggest that an alternative view to Labour is allowed? Just incase you think this post is from a LibDem "troll" (such an impolite term which discredits any claim you might make to being a reasoned advocate) think again - there are more than just "LibDem trolls" who object your tirades.
